Dead letters spell out dead words
Musik

Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words never seem to stay in one place for too long. From the dark and cold ambient of the first, self-titled cdr, via the faint, minimal crackle of the split album with The Hurt I Feel Is My Hurt to where we are today: a rusty, decaying mix of found sounds, manipulated snippets from the history of recorded music and traditional instruments treated in a not so traditional way, blended together into what might be described as concrete drone pop.

Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words is often compared to old school minimalists like Alvin Lucier or Phill Niblock. But Ekelund is far more likely to find inspiration in old girlgroup 45's, crackling Crass flexis and the concrete sounds of his hometown of Gothenburg. While most of today's drone outfits seem to be distant and cold, Ekelund manages to instill emotion into his often melancholy sound collages.

Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words is Thomas Ekelund, a 27 year old sound artist and graphic designer living in Gothenburg, Sweden. He has released music under various guises since 1999, including Normal Music (together with J. Surak and R. Irisarri), Dead+Hurt and WNQST//LNDGRN (both together with J. Lindgren), Winquist/Virtanen (together with R. Abrehamsson) and many many more ranging from pure noise to shoegazing. Ekelund is currently active as part of the free form noise rock quintet The Skull Defekts.
